Project Description

Project Impacts

The Erwin Events Center and Denton A. Cooley Demolition project will begin on Monday, September 18, 2023, and last through February 18, 2024. The campus community can expect pedestrian and potential parking impacts throughout the project. Vehicle and bicycle traffic will remain open.

Project Location:  There will be a temporary sidewalk closure along Red River Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 15th Street, as part of the Erwin Events Center and Denton A. Cooley Pavilion demolition projects, which will make way for the expansion of Dell Medical School. A simultaneous external construction project at Dell Seton Hospital will also cause sidewalk closures.

Project Impacts

Pedestrian Impacts:

  • The sidewalk on the east side of Red River Street will be closed to pedestrians.
  • A pedestrian pathway will be available on the west side of Red River Street, north of the School of Nursing to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and partially in front of Dell Seton Medical Center.
  • Red River Street will be closed to pedestrian traffic, south of the School of Nursing to 15th Street.
  • Pedestrians wishing to travel south on Red River Street to 15th Street will be diverted to the Waller Creek Bridge between the School of Nursing and Dell Seton Medical Center.

Bicycle Impacts:  Bicyclists are encouraged to refer to the City of Austin Bike Map.

Parking Impacts:  Street parking may be impacted along the west side of Red River Street. For parking alternatives, visit the Campus Parking Map.

Signage will be installed at key locations to assist with wayfinding. Due to the fluid nature of construction, this information is subject to change, but we will do our best to provide timely communication if changes are necessary.
